300 Full First Battle Scene

Filed under: Defending America,Entertainment,Open Thread,Terrorism,YouTube — Sisyphus @ 5:34 am

I’ve become addicted to posting these Youtube videos. This one has no immediate political relevance, other than showing that Iran can be beaten, and has been beaten in the past.

Plus, I think this was a really good movie. The Spartans were Pagans, but I still respect the values of their society. Very enlightened Pagans.

You can consider this an open thread, if you like. Or you can talk about the clip. Whatever.

  1. Hmm. You are aware, of course, that the rate of homosexuality in Sparta was high, even by ancient Greek standards?

  4. 300 was the perfect commentary about the situation over in the Middle East right now. King Leonidas is the perfect analogy to GW Bush; fighting for freedom against the savage hordes of tyranny only to be betrayed by traitors at home.

It will be up to President Brownback to avenge Bush.

    “Madness? THIS! IS! SPARTAAAAAAA!”

Heh. A film of truly epic rubbishness.

‘I still respect the values of their society. Very enlightened Pagans.’

Sisyphus, I would be interested to know your opinions of the widespread Spartan incidence of state-sanctioned paedophilia and infanticide.

Oh, and civilized people don’t kill messengers, every nation in the classical world understood that, except the Spartans.

Praised be for the day in which He returns and executes His wrath against the unGodly. Until that glorious day arrives we will have to settle for when we have Brownback as President to see the just display of the infidels being tormented for their sins against nature and humanity.

  27. “Hmm. You are aware, of course, that the rate of homosexuality in Sparta was high, even by ancient Greek standards?”

I’m aware that this is what the homosexual Athenian historians wrote.

“Which values do you like? The slavery, or the homosexuality?”

Slavery was quite common in the ancient world. Ignoring arguendo the brutality of it, the concept of forced labor is also pretty common in the modern world, under different names- something you might consider the next time the tax man calls on your door. At least it freed the aristocracy to wage war against the Persians. The Persians would’ve enslaved the whole society; the Spartans, in their wisdom, only enslaved part.

“I wonder if there is some way we could lure the Iranians into attacking us in a narrow mountain pass.”

Iraq has plenty. Or, we could cede them California, and hold them off in the Rockies. I would love to see the Iranian Army re-enact the Donner Party expedition when they tried to come kill us! Leonidas himself would look up on such a scene from his perch Limbo and be pleased.

“300 was the perfect commentary about the situation over in the Middle East right now. King Leonidas is the perfect analogy to GW Bush; fighting for freedom against the savage hordes of tyranny only to be betrayed by traitors at home.

It will be up to President Brownback to avenge Bush.”

Exactly. It’s also funny how the most depraved elements of Spartan society, the ones most closely representing modern liberals, were also the ones taking Persian gold. They were probably also the ones cracking the slavers’ whips while the true patriots were giving their utmost at Thermopylae and Plataea.

“Oh, and civilized people don’t kill messengers, every nation in the classical world understood that, except the Spartans.”

Those weren’t messengers, they were bandits. They got the treatment they deserved. If you came to my doorstep swinging skulls at me and demanding that I give you dirt and water or sacrifice my life and my family, you’d end up a lot worse off than those Persians did.

“What “300″ proved to me was that the Spartans were 100% not gay. They were totally straight. No homosexual overtones at all.”

Exactly. There wasn’t a single homosexual moment in the entire movie. Yet these treefrogs are willing to listen to homosexual Athenian enemies of Sparta over the actions of the Spartan military, which speak for themselves about the heterosexual nature of the Spartan society.

“You got that right, Curious. That’s actually because, if they caught anybody engaging in sodomy, they gave them a good, hard pounding right then and there. The Spartans knew how to straighten a man out, I tell you what. Wish we were more like ‘em.”

I agree. If Leonidas had caught any man doing that sort of thing in his Army, he probably would’ve thrashed him.

“Your god sounds like a total dickhead. He kills babies by the thousands, (noah’s ark and all the other calamities yousay he imposed on the world) I wish there was this god fella. I’d take his mean a** down a few pegs. He really needs a good beating to show him how to respect people and their feelings. Jesus must be pretty ashamed of him.”

You’re right. I am already well aware of the ancient testimonia. I knew that you were talking about the widespread misapprehension that the Lacedaemonians practiced pederasty. Xenophon (one of the few trustworthy Athenians) is in my view correct when he says that Lycurgus ensured the absence of erastes/eromenos activities in the Lacedaemonian agoge.

“I’m also waiting for a reply on the Spartan practice of infanticide.”

  54. Could you folks get your story straight? I mean, honestly.

    From evangelical.us:

In Sparta (a Greek city-state) boys were taken from their mothers at age seven to live with other boys and begin their military training. At age 12 they were paired with an older single man (22-25 years old) who became their teacher, mentor and lover. The problem the Spartans had was when it came time for men to be married they didn’t want to leave their male partners.

To make it easier for her husband to have sex with her on their wedding night the bride would shave her head and wear the clothes of a young boy. Her husband would leave his male lover, come to be with his wife, and then return to his male lover. Some men only took a couple of days before they moved in with their wife, but others took years or never made the transition to normal sexual relations.

Could you straighten those guys out?
