Psycheout Censored at MyDD (My Direct Democracy)

Back on Sam Brownback Day, I wrote a diary over on the left-wing website, MyDD, entitled “We Need the Best Candidates — Sam Brownback Is One.”

It had 59 comments last time I checked, more than any other diary on the front page at the time and more than any of the recommended diaries.

It seems to have has disappeared, along with all of the comments. I checked the wayback machine and it has no archives for 2007. Darn it all!

While writing up this post, I sent an email to the webmaster, wondering what had happened. Here is his reply:

You were very nice, but I have always deleted diaries that support candidates from opposing parties. The diaries reflect on the site as I whole, and I cannot allow that.

Banning you was kind of harsh though. I am reinstating you, but consider this a warning. Do it again, even in the comments, and you will be banned.

So much for leftist tolerance. I have decided to reprint my original article here so you can read it and judge for yourself. It’s not avaliable anywhere else. Not anymore.

I ask you, my friends, was this really worthy of censorship?

More below the fold….

We Need the Best Candidates — Sam Brownback is One

Many of my liberal friends are struggling over who they support for the 2008 Presidential nomination. My conservative friends are facing the same conundrum.

The Democrats

Many progressives dislike Hillary Clinton for the same reasons as my conservative friends. She’s too poll driven. She sticks her finger to the wind and announces her stand based on her political windsock. The issue that my liberal friends cite the most, however, is her continuing support of the war in Iraq.

Of course my conservative friends don’t view this as a negative, but they have other reasons for disliking Senator Clinton. I’ll leave these reasons up to your imagination. I’m sure you are probably aware of most of them.

It seems the Democrats and their supporters are having the same problems they had back in 2004 when they unwisely ran Senator Kerry against a much maligned and weakened President Bush. Will the Democrat party nominate another Presidential candidate with high negatives? I don’t know. Actually, I wish them well and all the luck in the world.

I think it would be good for America if the two major parties would put up a genuine liberal and a true conservative candidate against each other for a healthy battle of our respective ideologies.

So far, this doesn’t seem to be the case. And we are all worse off for it.

I cannot really comment much about the other Democrat candidates that are in the running this early in the campaign season. The other one to beat, I suppose, is Barack Obama, who I give credit to for speaking up on issues of faith. John “two America” Edwards is done, in my humble opinion. He didn’t help John Kerry much in 2008 and will do even worse as he goes solo.

The Republicans

The Republican party is having similar problems. The top three in most of the most recent polls I affectionately (or not) refer to as “The Three RINOs” (aka Rudy McRomney).

John McCain is done. He will never become President. Ever. Buh-bye. See his most recent gaffe in McCain goes soft on HIV and morality over at Blogs 4 Brownback.

I suppose that liberals might secretly be rooting for RINO Rudy Giuliani, who in my opinion, is a pro-abortion, activist judge loving, gun grabbing authoritarian.

Or perhaps they see some hope in Flipper Romney (aka Flip-Floppin’ Mitt) whose position on issues that social conservatives actually care about seems to depend on the day and in which direction the political winds are blowing. He’s not my (or any informed conservative’s) choice by any means.

Sam Brownback

Who does that leave for me? Easy answer: Sam Brownback. He’s currently marginalized and dismissed by the MSM but he is the one true conservative in the race who deserves the nomination. True, he’s pro-life, which many on the left are worried about, but he is for “all life,” not just life in the womb.

He cares about the suffering in Darfur, those languishing in prison, those who are exploited by human trafficking, those who are struggling in poverty, and more. In short, this is a bleeding-heart conservative who cherishes “all life.”

The American Electorate

I think it does none of us, liberal or conservative, any good to have phoney candidates who only care about themselves and their own persuits of power.

I hope and pray that this time, in 2008, we can get genuine candidates on both sides of the political spectrum. I hope, if on nothing else, that we all can agree on this simple wish.

As to the 2008 election, may the best man win!

Again, there were some 59 comments, many of them positive, but my diary seems to have has disappeared. This is a vanity post, I know, but please can someone explain to me why my diary would have possibly been deleted after being up for more than 24 hours? What did I do or say wrong?

So much for civility. Now it’s war. This just makes me really ticked off!

Postscript: After a few emails in which I pleaded my case, the webmaster (whose name I will keep confidential) called me a “concern troll” and closed with:

I banned you. Don’t send me any more emails.

Democrats. Marxists. Trotskyites. Stalinists. The labels are now officially interchangeable.

Update: I originally signed up for MyDD when a web search turned up an article there that was anti-Sam, Brownback for the Wingers. I left several comments and had a reasonable discussion with the commenters. My comments have since been deleted. There is one reference to me (“Psyche”) by one of the responders, but the conversation seems pretty disjointed since all of my comments were disappeared. Hooray for free speech and rational discussion, the hallmark of the left!

Update 2 (4/5/2007): Crossposted at Daily Kos.  Will they be more tolerant than MyDD?  Time will tell.

  1. That’s really lame. It’s a good reminder of why I don’t read leftwingnut blogs. They don’t allow anyone to deviate from the kookbat hive mind. At least you tried.

  3. Those scumbags have clearly shown the kind of “civil liberties” they envision. I hope President Brownback follows through on the steps taken by President Bush to marginalize these loons as much as possible. With a finite amount of free speech to go around, they’ve wasted enough oxygen already.

  4. MyDD is a private site. They are not required to be nice or to tolerate you. Your civil liberties were not at risk. Red State does the same thing. I was the one who removed your posts on the “Brownback for Wingers” thread. I did not delete them, but rather MyDD has a comment rating system and if your comment falls below a 1 rating, it is removed from public viewing. I rated your comments 0 for the same reasons that Chris Bowers states in his post on the front page today:

    Things MyDD Is Not: http://www.mydd.com/story/2007/3/19/22615/5659

    Welcome to the internets.

  6. If I were a small minded control-freak like you, RDM, I’d remove your comments and ban you. But we don’t do that around here. I suppose this disappoints you.

Congratulations on rating my comments down to zero, if you did. That’s really grown up of you, you totalitarian freak.

    What MyDD is not: worthwhile.

  7. “If I were a small minded control-freak like you, RDM, I’d remove your comments and ban you. But we don’t do that around here. I suppose this disappoints you.”

And yet you have already edited my comments to remove words that you found objectionable. You can’t handle words like “damn” and I’m supposed to be the small-minded control freak.

    Ahh sweet, sweet irony.

  8. Editing foul language in a comment on a site that is supposed to be family friendly is not the same as banning a cordial user and removing all his comments. It’s sad you can’t tell the difference.

And unlike MyDD this is clearly stated on our about page. That we do not tolerate foul language. But we haven’t removed any of your comments, now have we?

  9. What did you expect? The left can’t help themselves. They’re natural authoritarians and groupthinkers. It’s who they are.

Why is this RDM guy such a jerk? Did he eat lead paint chips as a child? Was he dropped on his head? What?

I’d ban him. You’re much more patient than I am though.

  10. “Editing foul language in a comment on a site that is supposed to be family friendly is not the same as banning a cordial user and removing all his comments.”

They’re both forms of censorship, Psyche. It’s sad that you can’t see the similarities.

“And unlike MyDD this is clearly stated on our about page.”

So, you didn’t understand the following statement on the MyDD about page? “MyDD is a group blog designed to discuss the progressive movement and political power.”
    http://www.mydd.com/about

It is not there for Brownback supporters or any form of conservative.

The real crux here, Psyche, is that you have your place for free speech–it’s a little site right here are wordpress. You might have heard of it. The url is blogs4brownback.wordpress.com. You can (and do) control the content of this site, and the guys at MyDD can (and do) legitimately control the content of their site. Both of you have the right to say whatever you want, just not on every site that you want. Unlike wordpress, which privately owned but open to use by the public, MyDD is privately owned and designed for a specific purpose.

I bet you ban me eventually. I dare you to let me keep posting here.

  11. “MyDD is a group blog designed to discuss the progressive movement and political power.”

Yes, I did see that. It doesn’t state “[Certain Types of] Democrats Only.” They had a diary up on Sam Brownback which I signed in to comment about. Of course my comments have been hidden or deleted since I was banned.

The majority of my post was about politics of the 2008 campaign and less about Sam Brownback and the discussion was good. Did you participate in it?

I bet you ban me eventually. I dare you to let me keep posting here.

Whatev. As long as you’re civil and not overly profane you’re welcome to take part in our comment threads.

So, you are putting limits on the content that you will allow on your site.

  13. I don’t know why you’d want to reach out to those losers. You’re lucky to come back with your hand still attached to your arm. This RDM guy seems typical of that brainless ilk. A real moron who acts stupid just so he can argue.

But then he might actually be retarded, so I don’t want to make fun of the dummy.

  14. So, you are putting limits on the content that you will allow on your site.

I don’t think that’s unreasonable at all. You’re welcome to offer whatever information and opinions you wish. Why is civility too much to ask? A lot of blogs have had the thoughtful commenters driven away due to their comments section becoming a complete cesspool. We’re just trying to avoid that.

BTW, JOE – I really do hope you’re not poking fun at the mentally disabled…

  16. “I bet you ban me eventually. I dare you to let me keep posting here.”

I, for one, want as many liberals as possible posting here. First of all, you people might learn something about Brownback if you keep coming back, something about why he’s the best man for America. Secondly, even if you don’t, if you keep spewing alarmist rubbish you’ll help demonstrate to the rest of the readers how deranged the Left really is. So, profanity aside, you are welcome!
