Science Marches On

Creation ScienceTrue science, that is.

A Texas-based institute that advocates creationism as part of science curriculums is seeking state approval to grant an online master’s degree in science education, sparking renewed controversy over the place of religion in science classrooms, according to a report in the Houston Chronicle.

The Institute for Creation Research, which is based out of Dallas, says it teaches its graduate students “more typical secular perspectives” alongside creationism.

According to the school’s mission statement, the proposed program would prepare teachers to “understand the universe within the integrating framework of Biblical creationism,” the Chronicle reports.

After this campaign is over with, I may apply for one of these degrees. This curriculum is designed by people who understand the way things really are:

According to the Institute’s Web site, students and faculty must profess faith in a literal translation of the Bible, including the belief that God created the world in six days and made life in their current forms, that the Earth is only a couple thousand years old and the fossil record is the result of the great flood as described in the Bible.

In other words, no moonbats allowed. No trolls allowed. No Communist secularist humanist Copernicans allowed. My kind of program. When Huckabee wins the White House, it’s going to be everyone’s kind of program. That’s a promise, folks.

  8. you do realise that such a degree will never be accepted by any accredited universities, and the school (if you can call 54 people a school) has no intention of teaching science at all so they can’t really call it a science degree. They are just religious fanatics (similar to those that run this site) and sunday school teachers, they aren’t even real students.

    I wonder who it is that thinks they are qualified to give someone a degree in something unless they have the degree themselves. Wouldn’t that make the students more qualified in the subject than the faculty?
    (aren’t teachers supposed to already have a degree in the subject they teach?)

    Believe me, no such degree will ever be accepted by the department of education. So if any are actually given out it will be as “tokens” only.

  9. That’s interesting, Sisyphus, and even though I don’t really accept Creation Science as it stands now, that sounds like a pretty important step toward legitimizing it in the public eye.

    However, as FadedRose expresses, I don’t know if other universities or the science community at large will support this. It’ll likely be as mocked by the secular community as a degree in theology, if not more so.

    Again, while I personally don’t believe in the idea of Creation Science, I do find it a shame that so many people would so quickly mock it and those who study it. Atheism, I believe, asks us to be open-minded. Even Richard Dawkins himself says that he is “almost certain” that there is no God, implying that he could be swayed otherwise given the appropriate evidence. If this pans out (regardless of who is elected to the White House), it’ll be interesting to see how it furthers debates such as this.

I don’t understand how liberals can deny the Great Flood. It is obvious to everyone that the Garden of Eden was on the Arctic Circle.

We’ve had that anti-Christian doctrine of Darwinism shoved down our throats long enough. Finally someone has opened school to teach future teachers on how to teach good science.     That has nothing to do with evolution, BJ. I believe in the Flood; it’s mentioned in more than just the Bible. Even the Epic of Gilgamesh discusses some catastrophic flood that ravaged the land.

    It says that in Deuteronomy 21

    “Deuteronomy 21:18 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:

    Deuteronomy 21:19 Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;

    Deuteronomy 21:20 And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.

    Deuteronomy 21:21 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.” PRAISE!

    Pretty clear cut I’d say.

  22. The flood is undeniable. All historic accounts point to the reality of the flood. Just as all beliefs and even mythology refer to a great flood. In the bible it was Gods punishment for evil. In mythology is was Zues’ revenge on the country that set his son (Perseus)and his mother afloat in a coffin. In science it’s considered the effect of a period of global warming causing massive rainstorms and melting of the ice caps. But there is no one on this thread that is qualified to say as an absolute fact which of those is true. Unless you actually lived through it then you can’t know how it happened for sure. Just as you can’t know for sure that the bible is really the word of God, you weren’t there when it was written. Who told the authors what Adam and Eve said to each other? Neither Moses or his children wrote the old testament, and there were no other people alive on earth, so who knows what was said and done on the ark?
    It was also such a flood that inspired the legend of Atlantis.

    So you see, no one denies the great flood, they just disagree on how and why it happened. And none of us will ever know for sure.

BJ, none of that gives a man the right to kill his child, it says to bring him before the elders of the city and explain his misbehavior so the elders can punish him, by that same quote, it would infer that we have the elders of our cities decide if our kids need punishment, I believe that’s the job of the modern day courts now, as it was the job of the courts then (you do realise that by the elders of the city, they mean the city’s governing body) But it doesn’t say the parents can do it, it’s up to the city to decide.
    Not so clear cut after all is it?

  25. You read all of that into that one verse. No wonder you have so many twisted ideas about what the bible means, it didn’t say for the father to join in. And it still doesn’t give the father the right to kill his son, but just to make sure this is all ok, take your son into town and tell the courts (or elders if you prefer) that he disobeys you and see if they will allow him to be stoned to death. I think they would lock you up for being mentally handicapped, with homocidal tendencies.

  29. Imagine this though, a whole new area of science to study and out of all the millions of people in this country only 54 were interested enough to want to take the course. All other subjects have more than that in each class on every campus. 54 is like one student per state. (and a possible four states with two)
    Sounds like a real popular subject.

    Darwinist studies are for people who are too stupid to understand Creationism, or Intelligent Design. I can disprove evolution right here: Let’s say there are two kinds of deer, the kind that can dodge cars and the kind that can’t. Under the ‘theory’ of Darwin, the deer that can’t dodge cars would eventually die out, leaving only deer that can dodge cars. However, the statistics of deer being hit hardly fluctuate.

    This Creationist college needs more ideas for facilities. I have a few ideas:
    – A gas chamber for death row inmates, so we can practice chanting Scripture.
    – A laboratory for creating penguins (killing them off, of course, since letting them live defies God’s authority), to show that Darwinists can easily foster a lie on the American people and roll in the dough on garbage such as “March of the Penguins” and “Happy Feet”
    – A classroom debunking Heliocentrism and Globe Theory.
    – A slamball court.

    These are just quickly thought out ideas, but the facility must be multi-functional.

    Oh, Bob. There you go again with your flawed empiricism. Think about how long it takes the earth to make a full rotation. 24 hours. The earth’s about 40,000 kilometers at the equator. using my handy-dandy calculator…
    The earth moves at 277 kilometers per hour. remember that number, because it’s important.
    That seems kinda fast, but let’s think about this: When you start your car and drive down the street, accelerating until you reach the speed limit (i hope), you can feel the force pulling on you. However, once you’re on the road and maintain a constant speed, you don’t really feel the force, because your body’s moving at the same speed.
    still with me?
    Now imagine that on a larger scale. larger. larger. even larger than that. Ok, so now we have you standing on the Earth. You don’t feel it moving because it’s moving at a constant speed of 277kph, and you’re moving at that same speed (277kph) because you’re a part of the earth. As you can see, the argument of “I can’t feel it moving” is not a valid reason to be a geocentric flat earth follower. Hope this has enlightened you and put you on the True Path of Wisdom.

    First take a look at Texas, the number one state in the nation for executing innocent people. With the introduction of DNA evidence they have already released several innocent people from death row, and from life sentences, with many more cases still pending. With that many innocent people in custody now, just think how many innocent people have already served their sentences or been executed, if you can laugh at that, then you are no better than the ones that are guilty.
    As for you being a danger, true, if you were in front of me I would laugh in your face without worrying about it, your intelligence and attitude are both very laughable, But you are the type that likes to talk tough then run and hide if confronted in person, I am from California and still have a lot of relatives there and I know for a fact that you lied about helping cops shoot down criminals. They don’t like vigilantes in Anaheim or anywhere else in Orange county, and they don’t kill criminals unless absolutely necessary, you make it sound like you stand side by side with cops in old fashioned shoot em ups.     Not being able to feel the earth move is just ignorance at its finest. You can never feel movement unless the only thing moving is you. You can feel acceleration, but once the acceleration stops and you are at a set speed you don’t feel the movement (of course in a car with bad shocks you can feel the bounce, but not the forward movement).
    Penguins are innocent creatures of nature, they are not evil. The bible says God created all animals, give just one piece of biblical evidence that satan created any of them, that’s just your own stupidity that makes you say that. (the same goes for the platypus) And only a small percentage of them live in Antartica, most species of penguins live in temperate climates and some even in tropical climates, although it seems only one species can be found in the northern hemispere.
    The flat earth again. Just answer one question. Why is it impossible to get a photo of the entire earth? You can get one of the northern hemisphere, or the eastern, western, or southern hemishere, but not of the whole earth, and in each photo the earth is round, you can even find live footage of the earth as seen from sattelites or space telescopes like hubble and if you watch it you can see the earth’s movement as it rotates on its axis, but from the north pole looking downward, you can only see as far as the equator, then it curves under. The drawings at places like the flat earth society prove nothing. Why can’t they get an actual photo of the whole earth, everyone else seems to be able to get photos of the earth as it really is, why can’t anyone get one of it in its entirety as you would be able to if it were really flat?
    And how about for once giving some evidence that doesn’t come from a book written thousands of years before anyone understood anything about the earth and the universe, you can’t take anything in the bible as proof of anything until after the bible has been proven to be 100% correct in everything, which it never will be. And twisting the meanings of the bible to suit your own purposes is blasphemy of the worst kind, it’s using the word of God as a weopon against the truth.

    There are thousands of species that are not mentioned in the bible because there are too many to mention them all, but I think they pretty well summed it up in the two lines I have marked with the smileys, he created ALL things that live in the sea, on land, and in the air. Not mentioning all by name doesn’t mean the ones not mentioned by name are evil, to name them all would have taken another whole book just for names.

  45. It’s not just evolution. Militant secularists cover classroom walls with huge “periodic tables” and propaganda for heliocentrism, while forbidding the Ten Commandments. It will take a lot of work to get back to Biblical knowledge.

    I am very worried that this institute wants anything to do with “secular perspectives.” Evil is evil.

  46. This is not science. Let me explain the difference between religion and science.

    Science:
    1. Start
    2. Get idea
    3. Perform experiment
    4. Does the evidence support the idea? If no, go to step 2. If yes, go to step 5
    5. Theory created!
    6. Use theory to better understand the universe
    7. Discover new evidence
    8. Can the theory be modified to explain the new evidence? If no, go to step 2. If yes, go to step 9
    9. Improve theory, go to step 6
    10. Repeat steps 7-9 as necessary.

    Religion:
    1. Get idea
    2. Ignore contradicting evidence
    3. Keep idea forever
    4. End
