Looks like Turkey is trying to get itself destroyed even sooner than we’d thought:
Turkish Cobra attack helicopters blasted suspected Kurdish rebel targets Tuesday near the southeastern border with Iraq in a second day of fighting in the area. The prime minister said an escalation of military action was unavoidable.
Three soldiers and six rebels have been killed in fighting, according to local news reports.
As the military pressure continued, the government called a Cabinet meeting for Wednesday to discuss possible economic measures against groups supporting the Kurdish rebels, private CNN-Turk and NTV television reported.
Turkey is reportedly considering a string of economic actions against the self-governing Kurdish administration in Iraq’s north, where rebels are based. The region is heavily reliant on Turkish electricity and food imports, as well as Turkish investment in construction.
The Kurds will probably destroy the arrogant Turkish military. But if they don’t, and if Ankara decides to take on our Iraqi allies, we’ll just have to finish the job. America can’t be expected to endure these aggressive encroachments indefinitely. Not from Syria, not from Iran, not from their special northern buddy the Turk.
These nations are diametrically opposed to freedom in the Middle East. Luckily, we have some friends that are willing to risk their lives and their homes for liberty. The Kurds, the Iraqis, the Israelis, the Armenians, the Greeks, the Afghans, and the Georgians will all be with us when we decide to liberate the Middle East from these disgusting, tyrannical, Islamist regimes. Other nations will surely join in too: the Russians might, for example, as well as our noble British compatriots.
Turkey should’ve been eliminated in 1923, but Ataturk lucked out and killed off the Greeks. He then burned Smyrna to the ground in the greatest atrocity since the Armenian genocide. Why was this nation permitted to endure? Because the French, in their lust for Syrian suzerainty, were willing to strike a separate peace with Mustafa Kemal. Ditto Stalin, ditto Mussolini. With friends like Turkey had, who needs enemies?
And now that nation has the nerve to attack our true friend, the Kurds. How can we be expected to put up with this incursion on the freedom of our friends and allies? I say, strike now, and eliminate the Turkish menace now and forever. It’s better for us, better for our allies, and better for the Turkish people.

The Iwans? Don´t make me laugh. They are actually siding with Iran, stupid. And the greek won´t support any action against Turkey, either. They´re allies as they´re both NATO members. The Iraqis? Aren´t many of them busy blowing US soldiers to bits? And Israel has enough troubles on it´s own without going onto an adventure. Same goes for Afghanistan, their army is busy dealing with druglords and Taliban and even there it needs help from the ISAF. The brits won´t come (NATO!) and the Armenians can´t contribute anything useful either. Seems like you´re standing alone.

Good point Psychout, America just can’t tolerate countries going about imposing regime change just because they find it convenient. There is a word of that; rouge nation. If Turkey thinks they can run into Iraq and torture and kill people with gangs of mercenary thugs well President Bush is going to have to set them right.

What would you do if some Mexicans crossed your southern border and began ambushing border patrols, soldiers and policemen. I can quite imagine the US Army occupying northern Mexico here. At least Turkey doesn´t intend to stay down there, they just intend to blow up the PKK´s infrastructure and then leave. And hell, they´re only targetting the PKK, not the Kurds in general.
PS: I somewhat doubt that the Iranians have any plans to invade Iraq.

This was the part of the “War on Terror” I feel certain you guys are using irony to show; the fallacy of philosophy that, “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” This region of the world is full of odd bedfellows, weird alliances, and strange animosities. Your friend today is your enemy tomorrow. That’s why going into Iraq was so perilous.
That’s why trying to build relationships with Pakistan is dangerous (or safe, depending on which day of the week it is). We are allies with India, too; so we’re going to start backing Pakistan? We already tried backing Afghan rebels, back in the 1980s. How’d that turn out?
But I don’t think for a second any of this is news to you. Heck, we even helped Saddam build chemical weapons, to use on Iran.
I thank you all for using irony and parody to point out how stupid our incursions have been.

1) The ANZACS had little chance of prevailing at Gallipoli because the British Navy dropped them off AT THE WRONG BEACH!
2) The Gallipoli landing were in 1915: the US wasn’t in WWI at that point, & in ’15 our army was little more than about 100,000 strong and equiped with hopelessly outdated arms and supplies, so they couldn’t have done any better than the ANZACS, even if they had been put off on the RIGHT beach!

That’s not revisionism (of any political stripe): I’m a long time student of WWI history, along with all aspects of world history just prior to, concurrent with, and immediately following it. I have been deeply interested in that whole era for over 30 years and have amassed nearly 100 books on all aspects of it.
So, unless you can submit proof of an advanced degree in History, with an emphasis on study into that same era, I suggest that you don’t presume to lecture me on it.
