Anti-American Actress Joins ’24’

Janeane GarofaloPerhaps they’re appealing to the left, fufilling a Hollywood quota, trying to be ironic or are jumping the shark.  But far-left anti-war wackjob Jeanane Garofalo is joining the cast of 24.  So much for must see TV.

The political left and the political right are going to meet on Fox’s “24” this coming season.

Actress-comedian Janeane Garofalo, an outspoken liberal, is set to co-star on the conservative-leaning real-time drama, whose co-creator/executive producer Joel Surnow jokingly describes himself as a “right-wing nut job.”

On the Imagine TV/20th Century Fox TV series, Garofalo will play a government agent who is part of the team investigating the crisis befalling Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) and company in the upcoming season.

The anti-American failed former Err America host as a government agent?  That would seriously strain the suspension of disbelief.  I can only see this as believable if she turns out to be a double-agent working for the terrorists.  Sorry if I ruined the inevitable plot twist.

What’s next?  Cindy Sheehan as Speaker of the House?  Now that would be torture.  Perhaps Barofalo on 24 is just the beginning….

Newsbusters does make an interesting point about this turn of events however.

What’s interesting here is how this fictional “conservative-leaning” show manages to balance out its conservative image by not only hiring outspoken liberal actors, but including liberal views within its storyline…while shows like MSNBC’s “Countdown” (hosted by Keith Olbermann), which you might expect would feel obligated to do the same since they are news programs, do little to balance out the liberal views often espoused by the host and guests.

In any case, the 5’1″ actress is going to need a footstool to see eye to eye with Jack Bauer.

  1. 1. I like 24. The series is one of the better on TV.
    2. I don´t give anything about her political orientation. As long as she plays her role good enough, I couldn´t be interested less in her political believes. 24 is fiction. Politics are reality. Let´s keep one apart from the other, okay?

  2. 24 is the most realistic depiction of the War on Terror on TV. Liberals in real life work for the terrorist so they should show liberals doing the same thing in the TV show.

  3. I am personally offended by your remarks and I’m surprised that they’re coming from a presidential candidate. JFo is just as American as Sam Brownback, and perhaps even more so. Plus, she’s a brilliant actress who brightens every role she plays. Go back to Kansas, you… conservative.

  4. She is not a brilliant actress who brightens every role she plays. She stinks. Politics aside, the best thing 24 could do with her is have her character killed off.

  5. Hey, I’d do her.

    I’m just saying…

  6. I love comments saying things like, “24 is the most realistic depiction of the War on Terror on TV.” Really. Realistic? I think that person shouldn’t be allowed to vote.
