Get on with the Debate Already!

Filed under: Debate — Psycheout @ 7:56 pm

DebateRace 4 2008 continues to demonstrate that it is the most important group blog covering the 2008 election in general. I hope DaveG will forgive me after that plug when I lift a quote from his latest post about the upcoming September debate.

I must strongly disagree with the idea that Republicans are being smart to skip a YouTube debate. They should embrace a YouTube debate. The last one was by far the best of the year, and the most revelatory. So what if they should have to answer a question asked a question by a snowman? Why is that any worse than being asked a question by Chris Matthews? And if the questions are ideologically hostile, they can call CNN on it during the debate — “I gather, Anderson, that there were 5,000 questions submitted. Amazing that you chose questions solely from liberal Democrats.”

John Podhoretz, making sense, as usual.

That is right on the money. It’s interesting that Podhoretz is working for the Giuliani campaign, last I heard. I was under the impression that Rudy had already said he was going to skip the debate.

Sign the petition and save the debate.

Heil Romney!Update: Mitt Romney continues to distance himself from the September debate. Sack up, man! Are the questions of average Americans not dignified enough, your highness?

Giuliani PincushionUpdate 2: Rudy Giuliani also gives pathetic excuses.

  1. For once, I think we are united in our criticism of Romney. Skipping a debate is unacceptable. Though I can understand the hesitation about answering questions from snowmen or similar beings, debates are for the benefit of the voters, not the candidate.

  2. He doesn’t think the format is “respectful” enough. Wow…he really DOES think he’s a level above the rest of us, doesn’t he?

  3. We are in agreement, Matt. Be sure to criticize Rudy hard for chickening out. That’s what I’d do!

What did you think of Podheretz’s statement? It seemed pretty strong considering he’s working for Rudy.

    Have a great weekend.

  4. It’s nuts to skip the YouTube debate. Losers hide from debates, winners take them on.

  5. I may be unpopular for saying this, but given the mass amounts of vulgar content promoted on YouTube someone as secular as Mitt Romney has to be very careful associating with them. If you lie down with dogs you might catch fleas. Thank the Good Lord that Sam Brownback doesn’t have to worry about this. His extreme faith and high morals act like a Chrisitan flea collar agains Liberal and secular fleas.

Sam Brownback in 2008 and again in 2012!

  6. You guys should put your energy into re-electing GWB in 2008. He’s got a better chance of winning than Brownback.

  7. Mrs. TDGC, faith =/= morals. You are a sterling example of that.
