Fraud Thompson’s Tasty Slush Fund

Having already been established as a pro-abortion lobbyist and liar, Fred Thompson (aka Fred!) also appears to have used his own PAC as a slush fund for his family. So much for Law and Order.

WHAT did Fred Thompson’s son, Daniel, do to earn the more than $170,000 that his firm, Daniel Thompson Associates, was paid from his father’s federal political action committee, the Fred D. Thompson PAC?

The records suggest he did next to nothing.

Like father like son.

It’s perfectly legal for a former public official to roll leftover campaign funds [$378, 601] over to a PAC and use that money to support candidates. Yet very little of these funds actually went to candidates – the bulk of the money was paid to Daniel Thompson.

But sonny boy worked hard for pappy’s PAC, right? He earned that pay by helping elect Republican candidates, right? No?

Maybe Daniel Thompson wrote the 20 checks a year that the PAC mailed out. How much time or skill could that take? Not $85,000 a year worth.

The PAC appears to have had no office, no phone and no employees other than Daniel Thompson. Minor amounts went for spot telephone and Internet bills, and for an accountant.

I can’t wait for the FredHeads to defend this. You can bet they will. Cue someone referring to me as “PsychePatient” in 3, 2, 1….

  1. Just what we don’t need, a candidate that skirts CFR that he co-sponsored. Seems to me that he is outright breaking CFR rules with his campaign now hiring people and in campaign mode, but because it is Fred Thompson it is okay according to Fredheads.

Is he only running to build up more PAC money to keep taking care of his son?

  2. The latest Fox poll has put Thompson as the leading candidate above Giuliani now.

  3. It’s a game of musical chairs, Madam, and the music’s still playing. Thompson hasn’t even declared yet. Once he does, the mystery is gone, and as people find out more about him, he will sink like a rock.

  4. And Samantha makes a great point. In addition to being a big fan of CFR (Campaign Finance Reform, McCain-Feingold-Thompson), isn’t he also a member of the other CFR (Council on Foreign Relations)?

But his numbers are increasing. By your logic they should have been decreasing for some time now.

  12. I find it quite funny that the candidate for social values, Sam Brownback, and his apparent supporters blog find no irony in using Dick Morris to go after other candidates.

  17. Im a kid, well sort of. I’m 24.

Anyways, BrownBack has one potential dilema. He says he is catholic. Now I am wondering, what is his veiw on 5 calvinism? You may think the question insignifigant, yet theology has an affect on politics. His veiw of salvation WILL affect how he does business. Is he going to be like Urgen Canner the calvinist basher? No rights for calvinists then sadly. This man has to be someone who cares about the truth. Therin lays the signifigance of calvinism. 5 point calvisnism is true. If this man reacts like Urgen canner that would present of problem. Think about it. Would you want a president to go around locking up 5 pointers and suppressing the truth? This issue should be brought up. It is crucial to the vote. We really need a very good president. We have had to many bad ones. Not looking for perfecting. I just hope this man Brownback does not have a disdain for calvinism or calvinists.
