I woke up in a cold sweat after having some rather disturbing nightmares. There’s something in the air, but I can’t put my finger on it. But apparently this could likely be a dangerous and cruel summer indeed. I guess my uneasy sleep has something to do what Secretary Chertoff said yesterday:
We could easily be attacked. The intent to attack us remains as strong as it was on September 10, 2001.
I believe we’re entering a period this summer of increased risk. We’ve seen a lot more public statements from Al Qaeda. There are a lot of reasons to speculate about that but one reason that occurs to me is that they’re feeling more comfortable and raising expectations. In the last August, and in prior summers, we’ve had attacks against the West, which suggests that summer seems to be appealing to them. I think we do see increased activity in South Asia, so we do worry about whether they are rebuilding their capabilities. We’ve struck at them and degraded them, but they rebuild. All these things have given me kind of a gut feeling that we are in a period of increased vulnerability.
There’s much that Michael Chertoff knows that he cannot make public due to national security. But these warnings seem very deliberate to me. We are close to another attack of the magnitude of 9/11 and the Bush Administration is doing everything in its power to prevent it. But the President is warning us through our Homeland Security chief that the attempt could be made at any time.
Perhaps after the attack is foiled we will be given the specifics. The alternative is unthinkable: we’ll know if the attack succeeds. I’m very thankful that I’m nowhere near any likely targets. I hope, dear readers, that you are too. Because the big one could be coming. We are being warned (in a way that won’t cause panic). But you can be sure that our intelligence services have a lot of flashing lights going off right now.
Predictably, left-wing kook icon and sportscaster Keith Olbermann has some stupid anti-American conspiracy theory about how this warning is somehow politically timed. I won’t bother to go into the details of his hateful and idiotic rant. You can read about it for yourself. It’s amazing what BDS does to liberal wackos. Well, here’s a lowlight of Keith at his most deranged and unfunny:
Olbermann concluded: “Yeah, the ‘gut feeling’ has been described as ‘breaking news.’ Actually, a ‘gut feeling’ would be closer to ‘breaking wind.'”
Whatever happens, may G-d continue to bless and protect these United States. I pray that the perfect record President Bush has had in protecting America from terrorist attacks continues to hold. With Sam Brownback as President that record would certainly be extended. Of that there can be little doubt.
One thing’s for sure. It’s going to be impossible to get back to sleep.
Update: Never underestimate the power of prayer. Please pray for G-d to preserve and protect the USA from the coming terrorist threat.
