Mitt Romney: Porn Merchant?

Famous flip-flopper and Presidential candidate Mitt Romney appears to be on many sides of the pornography issue. Not surprising and quite typical of he of the many flips and flops.

Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney, who rails against the “cesspool” of pornography, is being criticized by social conservatives who argue that he should have tried to halt hardcore hotel movie offerings during his near-decade on the Marriott board.

Cesspool? Certainly. Hmm, the sun rose in the east today. That means there must be a flip or a flop or a weasel word coming from RINO Romney.

Romney said his current concern is not about pornography per se, but children unwittingly stumbling upon it on the Internet or television.

“I am not pursuing an effort to try and stop adults from being able to acquire or see things that I find objectionable; that’s their right. But I do vehemently oppose practices or business procedures that will allow kids to be exposed to obscenity,” the former Massachusetts governor said.

Huh? It’s a cesspool that he’s vehemently against, yet he’s not going to do anything about it. That bit about children “stumbling” is a pathetic smokescreen.

“Marriott is a major pornographer. And even though he may have fought it, everyone on that board is a hypocrite for presenting themselves as family values when their hotels offer 70 different types of hardcore pornography,” said Phil Burress, president of Citizens for Community Values, an anti-pornography group based on Ohio.

Despite the distribution of pornography being against Christian values (and even Marriott and Romney’s Mormon faith), it seems that nothing was done to stem the tide of pornography flickering on the depreaved screens of Marriott hotels for the, ahem, benefit of their guests. And for the benefit of their own coffers.

During a recent Associated Press interview, Romney said he did not recall pornography coming up for discussion while he was on the Marriott board from 1992 to 2001. Despite being chairman of the board’s audit committee, he also said he was unaware of how much revenue pornography may have generated for the hotel chain.

Sure. Tell us another one, like how you’re a lifetime hunter, are a strong supporter of gun rights and a dog lover. This guy is shameless.

Daniel Weiss, media analyst for James Dobson’s “Focus on the Family,” said this week in a radio broadcast to Focus members: “If (Romney) made money off pornography in the past, is he going to turn a blind eye to it if he’s president? Because as chief executive of the nation, it’s his responsibility to make sure our nation’s obscenity laws are efficiently and vigorously enforced.”

Absolutely. He is not to be trusted.

Read the whole article for more. Like this tidbit:

Not only did he serve on its board of directors, but his given first name _ “Willard” _ is in honor of the hotel chain’s founder, J. Willard Marriott.

I think it’s time for Mitt to check out and pay his hotel bill. The Republican party has no need for a flip-flopper and porn merchant. Not as the GOP nominee for President, that’s for sure.

  1. it should read “typical of him” not “typical of he”

hmm. while i myself am against pornography, it IS an individual adults right to choose to view it/participate in it or not. it is, however, a major problem when it comes to child pornography or people under 18 being exposed to it.

i’m honestly not seeing what the big deal is when it comes to legal poronography. people like sex. and lots of people have kinks and what-have-you, so let a lonely 40 year old man watch his hot young asian XXX if he feels like it. it’s not hurting anyone.

it’s taxpayers -you know, AMERICANS- that put that money in his pocket and got him rich off of porno. ponder on that for a while, eh?

  2. Your headlines are incredible pieces of baseless propaganda. Mitt Romney – Porn Merchant?? Do you ever wonder why everybody thinks you’re ridiculous?

Thank you very much. We on the B4B Team strive for excellence. And we appreciate your positive feedback.

I had considered the title “Mitt Romney: Smut Peddler” but thought “Mitt Romney: Porn Merchant” was more objective.

Maybe Larry Flynt or Hugh Hefner should run for president then. Sounds like dhimmicrats like you would be lining up to vote for somebody like that.

Pornography not hurting anyone? Yeah, right. It rots our society from within and causes untold pain and suffering. Pornography is terrorism. The parallels are uncanny if you think about it. No wonder moonbats like it so much.

  6. Pornography is the gate way sin to homosexuality. My extensive studies of pornography have shown that first it is looking at naked women, then women with men and then women with women. After that it is only a matter of time before it is guys with guys or animals. Pornography must be stopped before it destroys the moral fiber of America. Clearly Mitt Romey is not fit for the presidency with his virtual support of the porn industry.

  7. One of our committees sent Reverend Haggard to the Marriott in Denver to explore these accusations and he verified the presence of evil pornographic movies. I don’t think Mitt will be trippin’ during the rapture…

  8. It really shouldn’t come as any surprise that the Mormon cult is in the hotel business. With all the multi-wiving going on they need multi-rooms to keep them in. The fact that Mitt Romney has ties to pornography is just more evidence that he is not a real Republican or Christian.

Vote for the candidate with only one wife, no porn, and morals: Sam Brownback in 2008!

  9. Mormons don’t, and haven’t, practice polygamy in a hundred years.

  10. Ok, do you people understand what it means to be on the board of directors for an organization? A board member has some influence in the company’s direction, at least some influence in the board, but one board member cannot just make executive decisions and make it company law. Public companies are not totalitarian dictatorships, for crying out loud, and even if they were, Romney doesn’t ownMarriott, he was just a board member.

So, if you have a problem with the fact that Marriott hotels offer porn (which is likely a package deal if you want to offer movies on demand at all), you need to take your complaint up with the entire board of directors and executive management of Marriott Hotels, not Mitt Romney.

  11. I try to avoid Marriott’s if I can. They don’t even put the Bible in a prominent location on your bedstand, they are so afraid of the way of the Lord.

  12. The porno movies are like the cabinet full of tiny liquor bottles in the room – way too expensive.

    Comment by Bob Baffet — July 7, 2007 @ 12:16 pm | Reply

  13. Sure, but after a few bottles of liquor, before you know it you might find yourself flipping through 70 channels of porn. Hung over and spent the following day you’ll find a large bill and yourself a little closer to eternal damnation in the pits of hell.

  14. Y’know, I agree that porn is a terrible detriment to society and should be outlawed (if anything just for the treatment of the women in these programs). However, I think it is pretty dumb to say that heterosexual porn leads to homosexuality. Nobody has EVER linked to two. Also, most people have the restraint necessary to resist porn and excessive drinking.

  16. Adam I must agree with you. Porn is sickening. It depicts women as an object to be used and abused…and while it can’t be linked to homosexuality (as I don’t see how it would….) it is kinda scary that from what I’ve read around 90-ish percent of sexual predators are porn addicts. Then considering that 1 out of every 3 or 4 girls and 1 in 10 or 12 boys is sexually assulted in their lifetime at lesat once in some form…that doesn’t look good. I HATE it.

    Comment by La Mona — July 7, 2007 @ 6:47 pm | Reply

  17. Now, now. There’s plenty of women-friendly porn out there. And thete sex predators are porn addicts thing, while probably true, is a case where correlation does not imply causation. It’s like saying violent movies are responsible for violence.

    Comment by Salmo — July 8, 2007 @ 10:05 am | Reply

  18. No, violent movies don’t cause violence. Marcia P. and Gaines-Crockett cause violence.

    Comment by Adam Nelson — July 8, 2007 @ 3:43 pm | Reply

  19. I’m saying that porn is easily abused…kinda like alcohol. Much more so than a violent movie. And males are more likely to go for porn because they are more easily visually stimulated. Women on the other hand want those “romance” novels. (In general….)

    Comment by La Mona — July 8, 2007 @ 8:38 pm | Reply

  20. La Moana “…and while it can’t be linked to homosexuality (as I don’t see how it would….)”

A guy servicing himself watching another guy having sex is a homosexual act. As I have said I have studied this issue extensively. It is perilously easy from imagining what is like for the guy having sex to imagining what is like for the woman having sex.

I also agree the way women are treated in these movies is shocking, but such human degradation is only to be expected from atheists and other non Christians.

  21. “However, I think it is pretty dumb to say that heterosexual porn leads to homosexuality.”

I occasionally monitor porn movies to see what kind of filth they are teaching our children, and I don’t think you fully appreciate just how homoerotic they’ve become.

    Comment by Harry — July 9, 2007 @ 12:22 pm | Reply

  22. Occasionally monitor porn movies? Uh huh… anyways, I don’t care if they kill a goat, bathe in its blood, sodomize each other, then abort several innocent bystanders’ babies. Seeing that stuff wouldn’t make me want to do it. People have their own minds, rational minds that aren’t motivated by fear. And only a mind that isn’t motivated by fear can truly be moral. The rest is just “morality at gunpoint”.

    Comment by Adam Nelson — July 9, 2007 @ 2:49 pm | Reply

  23. Christians watch porn too. When someone becomes a Christian they do not become perfect. If you people here truly are “Christians” then that much is obvious. *twitch* Christians backslide. Christians curse, Christians hate, Christians commit crimes, etc, etc.

Atheists make up how much of the U.S.? Hmmm? If such a small number then why so much porn here? (single digit percentages cannot make up every bit of the multi-billion dollar porn industry) Oh, yea, the other people from EVERY group/stereotype you can think of watch it. That does NOT mean everyone from that group you attempt to single out watches it.

This “monitoring” does not sound healthy……

You watch strange films. No wonder your view of the world is so distorted. I will say a prayer for you, Adam.

  25. You delight in derailing posts, don’t you Psycheout? Fortunately, even your fellow Brownbloggers are smart enough not to be tied up by your lack of consequential arguments. From now on, how about refraining from posting unless you have something worthwhile to say, hmm?

And La Mona is right. Very few people in the US actually list themselves as atheist, and they alone are not responsible for pornographic proliferation in America. That boon rests with everybody from every ethnic group. To condemn Atheists as smut peddlers is irresponsible and plain wrong.
