Our Commander-in-Chief has refused to submit documents relating to the administrative proceedings of his Administration to the Islamists in Congress.

President Bush, moving toward a constitutional showdown with Congress, asserted executive privilege Thursday and rejected lawmakers’ demands for documents that could shed light on the firings of federal prosecutors.

Bush’s attorney told Congress the White House would not turn over subpoenaed documents for former presidential counsel Harriet Miers and former political director Sara Taylor.

The leftist reaction was all too foreseeable:

Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy accused the administration of shifting “into Nixonian stonewalling” and revealing “disdain for our system of checks and balances.”

Leaky Leahy is upset that Bush won’t let him divulge our nation’s secrets to Al Qaeda. The man couldn’t be trusted with keeping a secret if his life depended on it, yet Bush is supposed to hand over classified documents detailing the Administration’s decisionmaking processes just because Leahy waves an unConstitutional subpoena in front of a few moonbat journalists and cameramen. Why Leahy is walking about a free man is beyond me; the man belongs in Guantanamo for his shameful track record on the subject of national security:

Senator Pat Leahy was annoyed with the Reagan administration’s war on terrorism in the 1980s. At the time he was vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

“Leaky Leahy,” allegedly threatened to sabotage classified strategies he didn’t like.

Leahy inadvertently’ disclosed a top-secret communications intercept during a 1985 television interview.

“The intercept ?made possible the capture of the Arab terrorists who had hijacked the cruise ship Achille Lauro and murdered American citizens. ?

“The reports cost the life of at least one Egyptian operative involved in the operation.”

In July 1987, it was reported that Leahy leaked secret information about a 1986 covert operation planned by the Reagan administration to topple Libya’s Moammar Gaddhafi.

U.S. intelligence officials said Leahy, along with the Republican panel chairman, sent a written threat to expose the operation directly to then-CIA Director William Casey.

Weeks later, news of the secret plan turned up in the Washington Post, causing it to be aborted.

A year later, as the Senate was preparing to hold hearings on the Iran-Contra scandal, Leahy had to resign his Intelligence Committee post after he was caught leaking secret information to a reporter.
He should have been indicted, tried and sentenced.

Leahy’s Iran-Contra leak was considered to be one of the most serious breaches of secrecy in the Intelligence Committee’s 10-year history.

But ultimately, this isn’t about some deranged maple syrup-chugging traitor from a state that wants to secede from America anyway. No, this Constitutional showdown is far more about the courage and tenacity shown by our President in defending the rights of the Executive to make decisions in wartime without bowing and scraping before the whims of media harlots and demilitarizing lily-livered treefrog poltroons.

America today owes its courageous President, George Bush, a debt it can never hope to repay. The man is a lion of freedom, an eagle of liberty, and a dove of Jesus. Schoolchildren will remember his defense of American liberty a thousand years hence. It will be spoken of in the same hushed tones of awe and reverence normally used when discussing the ordeals of Cato the Younger, or of St. Stephen, if not Our Lord Himself.

I thank you, Mr. President. And my children’s children thank you, as well.
