The trouble with Mitt

Filed under: Mitt Romney — relee @ 8:58 am

You’re all heard lots of great stuff about Mitt Romney, no doubt. He’s quickly become the darling of the East Coast elite media establishment. And why not? He’s rich, handsome, successful, more stable than Giuliani, and….not all that conservative. He makes himself out to be a family values kind of guy, but if you look at the name of his pet, you’ll see that 60s hippie values still have a strong hold on him: his dog, who recently passed away, was named Marley. As in Bob Marley. As in pot-smoking, America-hating, Jamaican radical.

No offense to anyone who likes Bob Marley’s music. I like the songs No Woman, No Cry and Jammin’. But it’s one thing to listen to a man’s songs on the radio and quite another to endorse his values by naming a pet after him.

This ought to be the final nail in the coffin of Romney’s supposed appeal to social conservatives. There’s not many of us who worship “Ja” or entertain crazed conspiracy theories about the CIA.

  1. How can you be sure he named him after Bob Marley? The name could have a fully other origin which would mean that you have just jusged an innocent. Shame on you!

  4. Excellent post but maybe the dog was named for another famous Marley, Jacob Marley from A Christmas Carol. You remember the guy. He was an astute businessman and partner of Ebeneezer Scrooge.
Scrooge went insane and improbably hallucinated that his once prosperous and entrepreneurial partner, long dead, wants Scrooge to become a…a LIBERAL! As if a smart money changer would ever want such a thing.
Further proof that Romney is an insane, hallucinating liberal.

Or, maybe the dog was named after this guy: http://www.myspace.com/bobmarleycomedian

Either way, it still shows that Romney is an insane, hallucinating liberal.

  11. Let’s talk about names…

“Sam” Hum, wasnt’ that the name of David Berkowitz’s dog who told him to murder all those people? As in “Son of Sam”? Didn’t Berkowitz admit that he believed his dog to be Satan?

“Brownback” Gee, sounds like a derogatory name for people of color, along the lines of “wetback”.

So, if we are in the business of aligning, or maligning, names then would Sam Brownback be a Satanic Latino, perhaps here illegally? Sounds like a good candidate for Gitmo to me.

You are pathetic, as are your sheeple.

  14. I hope Mitt burns in hell for naming his dog after a pot smoking Islamohippy. Bob Marley was a well known terrorist (and probably from the Middle East). Kudos to this God-fearing site for exposing Mitt for his real sins: the moniker he attaches to his family mongrel. Go, Sam, go!!

  17. “So you can malign Romney for his dog’s name… but not Brownback?”

No one’s criticizing the dog because of its name. We’re criticizing Romney for naming it that way. Similarly, if you want to criticize Sam Brownback’s name, take it up with his parents. He’s not responsible for naming himself any more than that dog Marley is.

  22. Sisyphus: I believe that the discourse of some of these liberals (see #20) is quite unreasoned and not very civil. They resort to insults and name calling instead of facts. We should ban such folks from posting here as it adds nothing to the balanced debate that we conservatives have always advocated.

When will we see a backlash against the Liberal Degeneracy which has ruled over us all these years?

Who knows, many years from now we may all (former liberals and True Americans) be sitting around a campfire roasting marshmallows and reflecting upon these crazy days and getting a good laugh at their youthful misguidedness.
That is if the terrorists don’t get us all first.

I agree with carsick. These liberals’ shameful comments may bring them to contrition and repentance later. I’m a former Democrat, so I understand that sometimes we’re led astray by idiocy. I smartened up; maybe these treefrog morons will, too.

  31. This doesn’t really make sense.

Marley is also the name of Ebenezer Scrooge’s dead business partner in Charles Dickens’s ‘A Christmas Carol’.

Marley returns as the first of the four ghosts visiting Scrooge (the others are the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet-to-Come, respectively).

Couldn’t the dog have been named after that Marley?

Absent additional information, I don’t see how you could jump to the conclusion that Romney’s dog is named after the Reggae star.

  32. If what you say is true, moron, why won’t Mitt answer questions about it? Why is he so evasive? What is he trying to hide?

Personally, I think relee is on to something. Mitt is a closet marijuana addict, and doesn’t want anyone to know. If he can’t or won’t use the Charles Dickens defense, something is up.

    Comment by Sisyphus — June 5, 2007 @ 4:52 am | Reply

  33. moron,
We addressed the other Marley you mention further up this comment thread. An insane Scrooge hallucinated that his old, dead business partner wanted Scrooge to become a liberal. Clearly, given Marley’s life’s work and experience that would have never transpired. Scrooge was insane.
What does that tell us about Romney?
I think it shows us that Romney is an insane, hallucinating liberal.
Perhaps he could be helped with some Ambien and lithium but not a trip to the White House.

  46. Endorse his values by naming a pet after him? Are YOU high? If you are judging a candidate by what he calls a retarded ball of fur that eats its own vomit, you might be stretching it a little. And for that matter, isn’t listening to Marley’s music more of an endorsement? Didn’t you notice that the song Jammin’ is practically a hymn for Jah?!

But, in all fairness, I appreciate your complete inability to use simple logic and reason, as it provides me with a regular laugh.

  50. Dont input your opinion if you have no idea what you are talking about, first of all To say that Bob Marley is an “America hating Jamaican is by far the most asinine comment I in my 20 yrs of life have ever heard, for all of you Republican ass clowns who are sitting here shaking their heads at a man who names his dog Marley why dont you crack a book other than the bible and you would see that your president who you elected and then re-elected has named his dogs Spot and Barney. Go figure he has named his dogs after a purple dinasour that only people ranging from 3-8 or an IQ lower than 100 know of also spot is the only word the man can pronounce or spell correctly not to mention he is probably still reading that book. in the words of the Great Bob Marley himself “WAKE UP AND LIVE” anyone who actually can look past stereotypes will know that the man only sang and spread word of peace and love know tell me what man that sounds like.

  51. you all are ignorant, Bob Marley fought for what he believed in which was peace and love, if peace and love is such a crime the you are sick people. most of these comments are false, Bob Marley wasn’t a terrorist. Mormons don’t smoke pot. Bob Marley brought Jamaca through some really hard times. Bob Marley didn’t die from smoking pot, he died of cancer in his toe from playing soccer with his friends. you all should be ashamed for what you are saying about these people, do some research before you go off saying that Marley and others are bad people. You spend your time discussing how someone you haven’t even met named his dog, that is just pathetic! you all should really pay attention to what the truth is, rather than just listening to what your racist peers have to say. Reading this article made me angry because of all the ignorant unlearned people blaming problems and spreading lies about good people who they have no idea who they even were. I am 14 years old and you all should be ashamed. My parents are conservative republicans but I don’t buy their bullshit. I, a young teenager am an actual free thinker. You all are obviously too lazy to find out the truth or just find it easier to blame all your troubles on people who just happen to be different than you. FUCK YOU ALL!
