3 True Republicans

Only three Republicans have the courage to refute the Godless, atheistic idea of evolution. What is this country coming to? Every Republican on that stage should’ve raised his hand. Shame on the rest of them; kudos to the three who believe in what’s right. Especially Sam Brownback, who won the debate hands down.

UPDATE: Am I the only one somewhat frightened by the way McCain looks in this freeze-frame? To me, he looks vaguely like a horror movie monster crammed into a suit and tie. Maybe it’s just me, though.

  1. I will admit I was surprised Brownback, or any of the candidates admitted to not believing in evolution. I had thought him beyond that.

I will say though it is very wrong (certainly intellectually and possibly morally) to posit those who disagree with evolution to be atheists. Just because someone does not have a literal interpretation of Genesis does not make them an atheist. Nor does the fact that atheists tend to accept evolution make it an “atheistic idea”. People of faith can also be people of science.

  2. Noonan-

I don’t, think it is bad that Brownback rose his hand in fact I welcome it people have personal views!

It is also wrong to attack someone because of a personal belief that one does not beleive in evolution!

Besides it was a stupid question to ask anyways it has very little to do with being president I bet it wasn’t a Republican that submitted it but it was a dem.

  3. The concept of evolution and the existence of an Almighty in the Judeo-Christian sense are incompatible concepts. Either you’re with us, or you’re with the Darwinists and the Wiccans. That’s pretty much what the choice boils down to.

  4. Jason,

I have no problem with people who believe in evolution, though I do think it is an intellectually tenuous position. What I do have a problem with is when people posit that to not believe in evolution makes one an atheist, a bad republican, a wiccan, etc. as Sisyphus puts in the post and comment #3. I agree it was a nonsense question for a Presidential debate, (but then again, Chris Matthews was quite possibly the worst moderator I have ever seen on many counts).

Sisyphus, I don’t know where you get off calling those who don’t believe in a literal interpretation of Genesis incompatible with Judeo-Christian tradition or a Wiccan/Darwinist. Calling someone else not a real Christian because they disagree with your doctrine (and again, not the Church’s teaching either if you read your catechism), is offensive. If you must persist in propagating this opinion, you should do it in a way that acknowledges your position is not the Church’s teaching and is not unnecessarily offensive.

  5. How is it Godless to think that maybe God was smart enough to be able to plan out something like the evolution of species? Do you think God is so moronic that he can’t plan something out in advance?

Also, since when did subscribing to fringe religious beliefs become a prerequisite for being Republican?

    You’d better inform the Vatican.
