Republican presidential candidate Sam Brownback on Thursday night met with a handful of constituents in Conway where he addressed immigration, abortion, and the war in Iraq.
“With illegal immigration, two things need to be addressed,” Brownback said. “First off, I think we need to build a fence. Secondly, we’ve got to integrate the social security system” with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Brownback also said he would support a bill like the controversial one introduced last month in the S.C. legislature that would require women seeking abortions to view ultrasounds.
“I support it. I am pro-life and I think that would simply provide more information to the mother,” he said.
Brownback said he supports the U.S. troop presence in Iraq, but also hopes for an adequate political solution to that country’s woes and denounces the notion of pulling out of the country by a deadline.
“The day we do that is the day al-Qaida declares victory,” Brownback said.
Sounds like he’s sounding all the right notes. He’s got to keep up the hard work of campaigning and getting his message out. This is how he will climb out of the second tier. That and I expect the three “frontrunners” (Rudy McRomney) to self destruct. They will continue to say stupid things that reveal themselves to be less than conservative.
