Mitt Romney: America’s Hunter

When he lies about little things like this, it makes one wonder what else he’s dishonest about:

The former Massachusetts governor has called himself a lifelong hunter, yet his campaign acknowledged that he has been on just two hunting trips—one when he was 15 and the other just last year.

Smirk. Yeah right. A lifelong hunter whose hunted only twice in his life. How old is he? 12?

Campaigning in Indianapolis on Thursday, Romney said he has hunted small game since his youth.

“I’m not a big-game hunter. I’ve made that very clear,” he said. “I’ve always been a rodent and rabbit hunter. Small varmints, if you will. I began when I was 15 or so and I have hunted those kinds of varmints since then. More than two times.”

Who does he think he is? Yosemite Sam? Hunting varmints? I think if you read between the lines “more than two” probably means three if any at all. This is pathetic. And this is a candidate for President?

In Keene, N.H., on Tuesday, Romney had said: “I purchased a gun when I was a young man. I’ve been a hunter pretty much all my life.” The next day, the campaign said Romney hunted rabbits in Idaho with cousins as a teenager and shot quail with GOP donors at a game preserve in Georgia in 2006.

Great. So is he hunting penned quail with fatcats? So much for being “a hunter pretty much all my life.” I guess it depends on what the definition of “is” is. Do we want another Clinton, this time a Republican? NO!

Campaign spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said Wednesday that Romney wasn’t trying to mislead anyone, and he promoted Romney’s support of gun- ownership rights.

Right and what kind of support are you talking about? This:

Romney has also supported gun control. When he ran unsuccessfully for the Senate in 1994 he backed the Brady law and a ban on assault-style rifles. As governor, he supported the state’s strict gun-control laws and signed into law one of the nation’s tougher assault weapons laws.

Uh huh. Sounds like he’s soft on the Second Amendment, much like RINO Rudy, “America’s Mayor.”

He joined the National Rifle Association last August as a “Lifetime” member.

Pathetic. I realize how many times someone has hunted is a minor if not non-existant issue to consider when choosing a candidate. But truthtelling and honesty is important. So are true conservative values. Pro-gun control and pro-abortion views are not something I want in a candidate.

I want a true principled conservative Republican. Someone like Sam Brownback.

Leon Wolf has more on this story: More Confusion on Romney’s Hunting Experience and Romney a “Lifelong Hunter?”

Update: Four States Report Romney Never Got Hunting Licenses. Money quote:

“I’ve hunted small game numerous times, as a young man and as an adult. I’m by no means a big-game hunter. I’m more Jed Clampett than Teddy Roosevelt,” he said, referring to the “Beverly Hillbillies” character.

Update 2: This just in: Novice Hunter Mitt Romney “Shoots himself in the foot.” We at B4B wish the flip-flopping RINO all the best, just not the GOP nomination. After all, whose foot will be next?

  1. Did you know that Mitt Romney ran off to France for 30 months during the height of the Vietnam War to avoid military service? You don’t read about that in any of his official bios.

  4. Wow. Just like the RINO Rudy story you have further up the page, this makes Romney look downright stupid. What a poser.

Haven’t heard about the France trip, Frenchy. Can you provide a link?
