Apparently here is the child that the Democrat party was originally going to use to promote SCHIP, but it didn’t focus group too well. I wonder why.
Hi, my name’s Timmy. My friends the Democrats sent me here to tell you about me and my family and why the Democrats are so good and the Republicans are so evil. You see, my mom and dad work really really hard but they barely make enough to make ends meet. And things are really tough around our house. Dad’s always complaining about how expensive everything is.

Why, do you realize how much caviar costs these days? (Dad says that a lot lately.) And really, there isn’t even enough money for us to have a garage for our cars.

And the house always needs something. The jacuzzi broke just the other day and the espresso machine is on the fritz, too. Dad says it is awfully hard keeping the place up on their income.
Oh no, I can’t take it any more. The tears fall like rain. I’m about to short out my keyboard. Sniffle.
Fortunately, the Dems chose some other poor family who are burdened with a half million dollar home complete with “granite counter tops and glass front cabinets” and are forced to send two of their precious moppets to private schools totalling some $40k in tuition. So they cannot afford health care for their poor disadvantaged and starving children. I’m about to cry again. And they only make $45k per year combined! They live on a mere $5k per year! Oh noes, the suffering!
But seriously, what’s up with mama’s boob tattoo? Is that a good example to set for her children? Is that appropriate attire to wear to Congress when crying for a handout?
John Cole demonstrates that he’s still got some memories of conservatism: he’s against SCHIP in principle. But he still has to lash out at bloggers on the right who get it right to satisfy his lefty commentariot. He has to be more angry at Michelle Malkin than, say, the deadbeat poster children for socialized medicine who are obviously gaming the system and taking money from your wallet because they are too cheap to buy their own health insurance. As usual, the always witty and observant Mark Steyn eats the looney left for breakfast.
This would seem to be a fairly typical media trajectory. The Democrats sign up a sick kid to read their Saturday morning radio address. As Paul Krugman has observed, Bill Kristol, Rush Limbaugh and the rest of us heartless bastards on the right were no doubt too busy laughing to pay attention. But the respectable media were very taken by it
Yepyep. Shifting gears a tad, just imagine, raising taxes on poor lower class cigarette smokers to cover insurance for the middle to upper classes. A regressive tax to steal from the poor to give to the rich? Why, it’s class warfare, I tell you! But the response by nanny state lefties is all too predictable and sadly typical:
I’d love to see poor people, middle class people – heck, any people – unable to afford cigarettes.
Uh huh. And there’s always compassionate liberalism:
The liberals are doing “the poor” a favor as they’ll be a little less poor after they give up wasting their $ on cigarettes and the insurance rates and hospital bills they cause.
Compassionate to the core, until it’s about something they profoundly dislike. Darn those evil smokers! Soak ‘em. That’ll teach ‘em! Typical authoritarian nanny statism — par for the course for the left.
