Veterans and other freedom loving Americans are proudly celebrating the fifth anniversary of victory in Iraq. This is how patriots demonstrate their support for the troops and their bold President. It’s actually quite moving when people publicly express pride in what their nation can do. You won’t find moonbats doing this sort of thing since they treacherously pray daily for defeat.
Along with Iraq war veterans and concerned citizens, Iraq Campaign 2008 says it will unfurl a 50-foot replica “Mission Accomplished” banner at the White House tomorrow, marking the five-year anniversary of President Bush’s now-famous speech.
The unfurling is slated to occur at 10:30 a.m. on Pennsylvania Ave.
Actually that “tomorrow” is today, so happy mission accomplished day!
Iraq no longer has WMDs and Saddam, the butcher of Baghdad, is no longer in power. Isn’t it amazing what we Americans can accomplish when we roll up our sleeves and work together? America: B4B salutes you!

CammanFia, how do you know all the Iraqis killed were innocent? The initial invasion, the mission which was accomplished, utilized precision bombing which doubtlessly saved a lot of lives. There is always collateral damage in war, but our brave troops did their best to minimize it. They are to be saluted, not scorned.
What does the U.S. economy have to do with Iraq? The Democrat controlled congress is responsible for whatever economic problems you are facing. I don’t understand how you can honestly and in good faith blame “the mission.”

The initial invasion was Dubya’s rediculously named “shock and awe” attack, it was a stupid move to try and scare them with our might by bombing the hell out of everything so that the constant bombardment would shock them into retreat and surrender, (no precision required) our initial invasion killed way more civilians than it did actual combatants. And that mission was never accomplished, it failed miserably. And that’s what the unfurling of the banner was for, to remind them that the mission still hasn’t been accomplished.
And you still haven’t addressed the reason you edited the original story and changed infamous to famous.

I guess since John “I’m ashamed of my own Jewish heritage” Stewart of the Daily Show makes jokes about it, it must be a failure. CammanFia, did I go over there and just kill Iraqi people? You seem to obviously have the complete and total understanding of a massive conflict including all the socio/political/religious implications. My Gosh, what are you doing here? Go to Washington and Spread your wisdom. What do you want us to do? Pull out? Cause I’m sure there wouldn’t be the same massive atrocities as say occurred in Rwanda when the social order completely fell. But hey, they are just dirty sand people right? President only orders the warcall. Generals lead the battlefield. Much of the coalition, save Britain and Canada, were made up of small nations, a number of which have pulled out long since.

It is common practice in the military to come up with nicknames and such for common terms such as “FUBAR” or “NUB”. In this case however, your just ignorant. The suffix “-stan” is a Persian term common throughout the area, that means “place” or “land” to the locals. A strict local to English translation for Afghanistan would be “Land of the Afghans” or simply “Afghanland”. You would learn things like this if you actually went out and experienced the world as opposed to sitting in your home, making pathetic attempts at sounding intelligent at the expense of others. Ah but your an American. Your supposed to be ignorant.

Believe me, Diablo, I’ve been out in the world for a much longer time than you have, you are what, about one third my age? I’ve never been to Iraq or Afghanistan, but I have been in all 48 continental states and Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Turkey, The Phillipines, Viet Nam, England, South Africa (very good pot there), Korea, and Japan. (later this summer I’m scheduled to go to Australia for a little trip through the outback). The fact that I am retired now has nothing to do with how I spent my life over the past several decades, you have many many years to go before you can gain even half the first hand knowledge of the world that I have. Think before you speak.

Naa, Diablo, if I was doing that I would have listed some more interesting countries like France, Italy, Egypt, China etc. countries I always wanted to go to but was never able to, several of those mentioned I was sent to by our own Military, Germany I went to in order to go to the US Embassy to try and get their help in getting my brother released from the Frankfurt Mein penitentiary, (I was also there for reforger excercises for three weeks), but I did spend time on my own in each just getting out and exploring the country.
As for being childish, I suggest you go back and look over some of your own childish rants. Besides, I am in my second childhood you know. 😀

I made the mistake of watching the movie version of Quadrophenia without proper versing in the whole mods/rockers thing, so it did nothing for me at first.
It is all too common for a band’s best stuff to be overlooked and albums that have more songs getting radio time being exalted. The Whoi get it alot.

Also, Afganistan is the English name for that country, no matter what the “direct translation” might be. Just like their Nippon is our Japan, and their Deutschland is our Germany. Saying that Afganistan should be called “Afganland” is like saying that Australia should be called “Southern”. Sure, that’s what it means, but that’s not the name.

Gas prices are higher than ever before.
Millions of innocent Iraqi civilians and thousands of American soldiers have died.
The risk of terrorism in Iraq is HIGHER than ever before.
Saddam, while certainly a snake, still had the common sense not to have anything to do with bin Laden, who is STILL HIDING IN AFGHANISTAN. Remember Afghanistan?
Our great-great-great-great-GREAT-grandchildren will still be paying off this war (that is, if the fallout of the S&L scandal has been paid off by that point, which I rather strongly doubt). Meanwhile, the elderly are being forced to continue working until they hit 80 because Social Security no longer provides nearly enough money to see our senior citizens through retirement.
Despite NCLB (and in many ways because of it), the quality of a public-school education has become so dismal that record numbers of mothers are home-schooling their children. And our nation’s private schools aren’t any better than its public schools, because there’s no accountability in the private schools. Many private schools, including our local Montessori school, are significantly WORSE than the public schools–yet parents are paying thousands to enroll their children in these schools!
Was the mission to make life in America and Iraq as hellish as possible? If so, then MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
